GOD'S LEADING

Today’s Lesson                                                                                                              
Prayer Point – Pray for grace to be led by the Holy Spirit.
Previous Knowledge – Teacher ask a student to review the previous week’s lesson. Teacher examines the assignments and marks accordingly.

1. Opening

A. BIBLE PASSAGE – Numbers 9:15-23

B. Memory Verse – “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14

C. Lesson Introduction – There was perfect leading by God on the journey of the children of Israel. The length of stay in a place and how fast to move was dictated by the Lord. They were led by the Lord as pillar of Clouds by day and pillar of fire by night – Exodus 13:21. None of the children of Israel asked any question on the leadership

B. Teaching Objectives and Lesson Plan

i. At the end of the lesson, students should be able to discover the need for God’s leading in their lives.

ii. They should also be able to discover various methods by which God leads His people.

To achieve these objectives, teachers explain instances when God’s leading are very vital.
Teacher also explains the various means through which God can lead His people with examples to buttress the points.
Teacher concludes by encouraging students to surrender themselves to be led by the Lord.

C. Text Review – Number 9:15-23

  1. God used the cloud and the fire to lead the Israelites from the Egypt –The cloud by day and fire by night. V 16-17
  2. The movement of the cloud determined the movement of the Israelites.
  3. God used His commandments to move the Israelites. When God commanded them to stop, they stopped.
  4. The duration of the cloud on the tabernacle determined the duration of their rest. V.20
  5. The cloud withdrew either by day or by night as they journeyed. V.22
  6. The cloud tarried for weeks or months or a year. For this period, there were no movements instead they kept the charge of the Lord.
  7. Teaching Method – Teacher should use question teaching method.
  8. Time Management – 15 minutes for Opening, 30 minutes for Lesson Outline, Summary, Conclusion and Assignment, 15 minutes for General Review

i. LESSON OUTLINE 1 – THE NEED FOR GOD’S LEADING
Q1.  Why did God choose a particular method of leading?

  1. He chose pillar of fire to provide light for the children of Israel in the night and to aid their movement. Exodus 14:19-20
  2. He chose the path of the Red Sea to drown the Egyptians.
  3. Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Matthew 4:1

           Q2.  What benefits accrues to the Lord’s leading?

  1.  It keeps the one being led from going astray. John 16:13
  2. God’s leading makes one steadfast.
  3. God’s leading prevents pronouncing wrong judgment. I kings 21:17; 2nd Kings 1:3-4
  4. God’s leading provides road-map to the kingdom being the master road navigator. Isaiah 42:16; Isaiah 30:21; Exodus 13:21-22.
  5. Divine leading provides meaning to our daily living. I Kings 19:15; Exodus 3:10; and Genesis 24:27.
  6. Divine leading provides access to divine supplies or daily provisions. I Kings 17:3-4; John 2:1-6.

A.  METHODS

  1. God leads through the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:14
  2. God leads through vision e.g. Acts 16:9-10
  3. God leads through dreams. Matthew 2:13-16
  4. God leads through words which serve as lamp. Psalm 119:105
  5. God leads through prophecy. Acts 21:20-14
  6. God leads through the still small voice. I kings 19:12

B.EXAMPLES

  1. The Israelites were led through Egypt to Promise Land.
  2. Jesus was led to the wilderness.
  3. Paul was led to Macedonia.
  4. Peter was led to Cornelius.
  5. Joseph was led to carry Jesus to Egypt.
  6. Prophet Agabus led Paul into understanding what would happen to him at Jerusalem.
  7. Prophetic utterance of holy men of God serves as means of leading thousands of believers worldwide.

Class Activity 2 – Why does it appear as if God no longer leads people?

Summary: God is still leading His children today by using various means. The only requirement is to surrender absolutely to His leadership.

Conclusion: That there are false leadings today does not erase the fact that God is still in the business of leading His children. He led the children of Israel in the wilderness. He led the early Christians and He is still leading today.
